Circular economy fair at Mircea Eliade Theoretical High School
What is the circular economy? It is a system where materials never become waste and nature is regenerated. Products and materials are kept in circulation through maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling, and composting. The circular economy can be a solution to climate change and other global challenges, like biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution, by reducing the consumption of finite resources.
It follows the next 3 principles:
1. Eliminate waste and pollution
2. Circulate products and materials (at their highest value)
3. Regenerate nature
Our Eco Ambassadors, coordinated by Mrs. Maria Bularca, organised The Second Chance Fair in order to raise awareness of the importance of REUSING, of buying less and of making a significant difference in mindset, in perspective, and in the world step-by-step.
Circular Economy Fair 1
Name of educational establishment: Theoretical High School "Mircea Eliade" Întorsura Buzăului
Name of coordinating teacher(s):
Bularca Maria, Gyorgy Corina, Mitrea Elena Mihaela
1. Beneficiaries/participants: 360 pupils of the "Mircea Eliade" Theoretical High School, 20 teachers, 15 children from the Family Home No. 1 and Family Home No. 2 in Întorsura Buzăului.
2. Period:
December 19-20, 2023: preparation and planning.
December 21, 2023- day of the event.
3. Venue: Room P1 of the "Mircea Eliade" High School
4. Description of the activity:
Step 1: sending an announcement.
Step 2: After the announcement to the students of the school, their parents, teachers and other staff, the eco-ambassadors took the items and materials brought in on the day of the event. They placed them on the benches/stands by category (clothes, shoes, stationery, electronics, etc.) and in the breaks that followed waited for "customers". The most favorable exchanges were made!
Results: only one medium-sized bag was left full of items that were not donated/exchanged. This is the first sign that the event was a great success. That is why we repeated it in March.
Impact (medium/long term): We educate students that we can consume less, thus protecting nature, the environment. We clean up our houses, getting rid of those objects that are no longer useful to us, but find their usefulness in other houses, with other people.
Special guests: We invited children from Family Homes 1 and 2 in the city. They took with them a lot of objects, from clothes, shoes to toys, various accessories.
Objectives:
💚 to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment
💚 stop waste by recycling and reusing objects
💚 showing the joy of GIVING
Objectives achieved: Following our success, we proposed to organize a fair every 2 school months.
